In their Sustainability Report of 2020, Maersk mentioned that “Diversity and inclusion are part of our value system, and our support for social justice and anti-discrimination is also expected by our employees“.

In line with this, Maersk launched their Maersk for Inclusion Excellence groups in the North American Region.. As part of this initiative, Maersk painted two (1×20′ & 1×40′) of their shipping containers with a rainbow to symbolise inclusion and diversity and integrated these containers into their fleet.

These containers are on a world tour and have currently reached Netherlands.

Maersk to test a containerised battery system to improve on board performance

I for one, am quite pleased with the many initiatives that the shipping and freight industry has been taking to combat climate change and reduce CO2 emissions..

Implementing IMO 2020 sulphur cap, testing the usage of bio-fuels to run ships, using scrubbers, avoiding north sea route, changing ships technology to use less fuel, etc etc etc.. While what is being done is commendable, there is still a LOT left to do in order to reach the goals set..

For its part, Maersk has announced that it will pilot a battery system to improve power production on board ships..

What is your opinion on the acquisition of these logistics service providers by shipping lines..?? Are they tramping on the toes of the traditional logistics service providers or will this benefit the market..??

Maersk, MSC and Zim Lines join hands in a new strategic cooperation

The largest global shipping alliance in the world in terms of percentage – the 2M consisting of alliance partners Maersk Line and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) are adding more muscle to their alliance with the announcement of a new strategic cooperation with ZIM Lines..

Maersk, MSC and ZIM already have cooperation agreements which started in September 2018 on five services between Asia and the US East Coast with four loops operated by Maersk and MSC (2M) and one loop operated by ZIM with the lines swapping slots on all the loops..

This new cooperation agreement which is expected to come online from March 2019 (subject to regulatory approvals) will see the parties covering three of 2M’s services and one service jointly operated by ZIM and 2M..
