Many of you may have heard of and come across the recently launched ChatGPT App developed by San Francisco-based artificial intelligence company OpenAI.. If you are unaware of what ChatGPT is,
ChatGPT is a state-of-the-art natural language processing (NLP) model developed by OpenAI. It is a variant of the popular GPT-3 (Generative Pertained Transformer 3) model, which has been trained on a massive amount of text data to generate human-like responses to a given input.
With all the hype going around the ChatGPT App, I decided to ask it “What should I do if I lose my original ocean bill of lading“..
Below is the response I got..
I also refined the question by omitting the word “ocean” and this is what it had to say..
As you can see, both responses are inaccurate including the definition of a bill of lading in the 2nd question..
Forbes is of the view that “ChatGPT is not a search engine, therefore it does not have the ability to search the internet for information.“.. OpenAI (creators of ChatGPT) does not make any mention of the app using Google search (or internet search) on their site..
But to me personally, it seems that ChatGPT is choosing the best answers from various data sources based on Google page views or search engine results and combining information from those data sources..
This would then also mean that the app looks at the strength of the SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) of the data source which may or may not have the most accurate answer for that particular question..
While the app’s “interaction” with the user is fascinating, easy, and fantastic, the app still has to mature a lot and I would not rush to use ChatGPT as an accurate source for questions..
As Forbes mentions in their article, ChatGPT “uses the information it learned from training data to generate responses. This leaves room for error — so all output should be fact-checked for accuracy and timeliness.”
So there is still much for the system to learn and I do hope that OpenAI founders and ChatGPT trainers are using subject matter experts in all the relevant fields to source the correct information and data..
Future of AI in shipping and freight
The concept of the ChatGPT app is fantastic and signals the importance that AI (Artificial Intelligence) will have in our lives in the very near future..
Our industry has been awash with new technologies including AI, Robotics, and Machine Learning that aims to improve how global trade is conducted and how the industries associated with trade such as maritime, shipping, logistics and supply chain will be impacted..
I have no doubt that these technologies will certainly make things easier for businesses and trade and certainly heralds that the future is already here, BUT with a disclaimer for humans to use their intelligence in equal measure as well..
Oh, and by the way, if you are interested in “What to do when the original bill of lading is lost..??” click here or the below image..
Need to inform carrier or MTMTransporter used for shipment where you delivered cargo.
So that we can track.
Because may sell and then can also declare lost
CargoX.io is a simple solution.
Give a Bank Guarantee to the carrier and get the cargo released. Some carrier ask for 250% of the cargo value as the bank guarantee and others a different value
Well, that answer was obviously wrong! It goes to show that human knowledge still surpasses AI.
Absolutely.. Needs more training to get to the current human level..
