And here comes Peak Season Surcharge on the Trans-Atlantic

Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) = a seasonal fee applied during high volume shipping periods in certain trade lanes.. This is a fixed quantum per container applied to all shipments moving in these trades during the peak season..

Close on the heels of rapidly declining ocean spot freight rates both to the US West and East Coast attributed mainly to a drop in demand in the USA, CMA CGM has announced that it will be implementing a Peak Season Surcharge on the leg from North Europe, Scandinavia, Poland, Baltic, Portugal, Atlantic Spain ( Bilbao, Gijon, Vigo) to the US West Coast..

The Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) of $2,250/20′ standard and $3,250/40′ standard and high cube containers will come into effect from the 8th of October (gate-in date) until further notice..

The 3rd largest container shipping line in the world also announced a PSS of $2,250/20′ standard and $3,000/40′ standard and high cube containers moving from North Spain & Portugal ports Bilbao, Vigo, Gijon, Leixoes, Setubal to the Canadian East Coast and inland points via said ports..

This will come into effect from the 6th of October (date of loading) until further notice..

As per CMA CGM, customers can view associated basic freights here and have been advised that Bunker-related surcharges, THC (Origin and Destination), and ISPS may also apply which can be accessed here.. Other charges such as contingency charges and local charges may be applicable..
